KOLKATA

Kolkata is the capital city of West Bengal. The three villages namely: Kolkata, Sutanuti and Gobindapur, where the Britishers settled after they got tried with the trading business. Then later they moved out of this village and after ten years they built a fort known as BBD Bag. This is well known for the trading place.

The growth of Kolkata gained the attention of the nawab’s. In 1756 Siraj-ufd-Daulah took Kolkata from British. In 1757, Kolkata was regained by Robert Clive, who also captured the French settlement of Chandernagore. He convinced Siraj’s uncle Mir Jafar to join him to work against the recapture of Kolkata.

In 18th century, Calcutta became famous in trading and opened many institutions that will help the people in education. In 1905, Lord Curzon divided Bengal into two different regions. Calcutta was the main place for the independence rally. In 1911 Partition was taken back and the capital was declared as New Delhi. In 2001, Calcutta was renamed as Kolkata.

Kolkata is known for its culture, artistic, and heritage, it is known as birth place for Indian culture. Kolkata has few famous names called as “City of Furious, Creative Energy” and “cultural capital of India”.
